What happens when you recognise someone without knowing them? You experience love.
And what could be more beautiful when that encounter is brought about through music?
One might envy Tom Bourgeois for having encountered the compositions of Lili Boulanger (1893–1918) in this way.
But one can also thank him for transforming that encounter into a tribute album of rare intensity.

Across 14 tracks, the composer and saxophonist does more than offer a sensitive interpretation of Boulanger’s work. He goes further, exploring the echoes that music written a century ago can find within his own artistic approach.

Musical colours and a certain sense of lyricism thus become shared landmarks in a profoundly contemporary landscape — one that Bourgeois also explores through his other projects, including Murmures, Moanin’ Birds, Rumeurs and his solo work.
The result is music that draws at times from jazz, at times from contemporary music, yet without ever feeling like a collage or a patchwork. Instead, this meeting gives rise to the distinctive voice of a coherent musical language.
