Six original compositions blending atmospheric contemporary jazz, cinematic textures and boundless improvisation.

Renowned saxophonist and composer Tom Bourgeois joins Brazilian double bassist Fil Caporali, winner of the Toots Thielemans Jazz Award, and drummer Daniel Jonkers in a musical interplay shaped by years of shared dialogue.

Having played together for several years in projects such as Vestige, Margaux Vranken and Aishinka, Tom Bourgeois, Fil Caporali and Daniel Jonkers approach their own compositions with freedom and openness, leaving plenty of space for improvisation and continuing a deeply intuitive musical conversation.

Guided by Tom Bourgeois’ expressive compositions, the trio transforms a simple musical structure into an organic conversation filled with tension, space and momentum.

The Musicians

Fil Caporali, doube bass

Double bassist and composer from São Paulo, Brazil, Fil Caporali was the 2016 winner of the Toots Thielemans Jazz Award.
He studied at the Koninklijk Conservatorium Brussel and is currently pursuing a PhD at Vrije Universiteit Brussel.
As a bandleader, he leads Moon Souvenirs, Moanin’ Birds and the Fil Caporali 5tet. He also performs with Commander Spoon, Margaux Vranken and Vestige, touring throughout Europe, the UK, China, Taiwan, Panama and Brazil.

Daniel Jonkers, drums

Born in the Netherlands in 1993 and based in Brussels, Daniel Jonkers studied at the Conservatory of Maastricht and the Royal Conservatory of Brussels.
He won the EU Jazz Young Talent Award in 2014 and the Toots Thielemans Jazz Award in 2018, and teaches jazz drums in Maastricht.
He performs with Aligaga, Sumooi and Nicolas Thys’ Sound Circus, and releases his own project, Whispering Trees, on Télès Music.

Tom Bourgeois — saxophone, bass clarinet, composition
Saxophonist, bass clarinetist and composer, Tom Bourgeois graduated from the Royal Conservatory of Brussels. His musical language moves between modern jazz and contemporary music.

A prolific film music composer, he leads the groups Murmures and Moanin’ Birds (with Fil Caporali) and is a member of Vestige.
His recent releases include the Tom Bourgeois 4tet’s Lili, released on Igloo et BMC.
