[L'oubli]

“A subtle blend of jazz quartet and string quartet “

Trumpeter, cornetist and buglist Pauline Leblond was born in France and has lived in Belgium for the last fifteen years.
Having won a classical trumpet prize in France, she has always been interested in writing and jazz.
It was to study this music that she joined the Conservatoire Royal in Brussels (FR and NL).
She has taken part in numerous projects ranging from world music to classical music (soloist, chamber music, orchestral music, etc.).
As a leader, she plays in a duo with Fabian Fiorini and with Cédric Raymond, in the Orion trio with Alexandre Tripodi and Boris Schmidt and with the Pauline Leblond Trio,
As a sidewoman, she has played with Flat Earth Society, Jazz Station Big Band, Sheikhs Shikhats & B’net Chaabi de Laïla Amezian, Big Nowhere and others.
One of her projects as leader, the ‘Pauline Leblond Double Quartet’, is a subtle blend of a jazz quartet and a string quartet, which alternately confront and merge.
For several years now, the Mucisians have been performing Pauline’s original compositions. In 2020, the PLDQ published ‘Suite de Danses’, a creative, refined, sensitive and intelligent album in which they revisit baroque dances such as ‘L’Allemande’, ‘Rigaudon’ and ‘Passacaille’.
In 2021, Pauline Leblond was offered a Carte Blanche at the Brosella Festival. She chose to play with PLDQ and to add a brass section: Mathieu Najean and Timothé Lemaire.
The result is the Pauline Leblond Double Quartet Invites Friends, for which she has composed a new repertoire.
Her aim is to find a common language between jazz and classical music, which might seem far apart, and to fuse these differences. They share a taste for the predominance of melody, for sonorities that are sometimes harmonious, sometimes dissonant, and for the search for timbre.

‘The charismatic and dynamic trumpeter takes us into a world that swings between classical and jazz, Bach and Duke, preludes and swing. Far from being a collage of two groups, this is a fusion of two worlds (and more). It’s swing and rag as much as it is fugue and sonata…
…. It’s all delivered with great elegance and relaxation. In this singular project, the band has to be close-knit and complicit – which they are – and the result is a joy to behold. To be seen again and again, and to be savoured without moderation. Jazzques
